The Department of Computer and Informatics Engineering of <a href="https://iust.edu.sy/en/category/colleges/engineering-technology/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">the Engineering and Technology</a> Faculty has distinguished itself through graduation projects that showcase unique and applicable ideas. Among these innovative projects is one titled “Smart Advertising System”, developed by students Ayman Alokla and Zein Malas and supervised by Doctor Mohammed Hayyan AlSibai. In this project, the proposed system allows advertisers to choose the target audience for each advertisement based on the viewers’ age, gender, and style. It also attempts to read a person’s reaction to the presented ad, and manages to complete all processes in an average of 5 seconds. After taking a photo of passersby, the system relies on 4 different neural networks with accuracies reaching 97% to extract people from the picture, and identify their gender and age range. These models were taken from state-of-the-art sources such as YOLO and DeepFace. As for the style classification procedure, two original networks were created and trained on custom datasets to reach a 95% success rate. While the reaction analysis model is considered the weakest point with the lowest accuracy of 60%, it does not prevent the entire system from being a successful and inventive project that can easily be adapted to real-world conditions.
