Placement Test
Before and at the start of each semester, we hold multiple placement exams for incoming students. The placement exam is a standardized, multiple choice test professionally written to determine the level at which the student should be placed. The test is computer based. So, the student gets his/her level immediately upon completing the exam. Students with strong English may be “exempt” from the English Preparatory Program and can take English 101 directly.
What’s on the Placement Test?
The English Placement Test consists of three parts: Listening, Reading, and General English.
- Listening: This part of the test includes three listening passages with a total of ten multiple-choice questions of increasing difficulty.
- Reading: This part includes two reading passages with a total of ten multiple-choice questions of increasing difficulty.
- General English: This part includes items testing knowledge of vocabulary, grammar, and social language. It consists of 80 multiple-choice items.
The full duration of the exam is approximately ninety minutes.
Once the placement test is taken, it cannot be repeated in the same semester.
