Discussion of the graduation project of /pharmacy/ for the year 2020-2021, entitled “Investigating Awareness of the Concept of Obesity and its Treatment among a Population of Syrians”
Under the supervision of Dr. Wiam Diban, and in the presence of the jury: Dr. Shawki Al-Awdi and Dr. Rama Ayyash, the students: Tala Al-Ghabra, Raghad Al-Qadi, and Nour Al-Barazi discussed their graduation project to obtain a bachelor’s degree in pharmacy for the academic year 2020-2021, entitled “Investigating Awareness of the Concept of Obesity and its Treatment among a Population of Syrians” The study aimed to assess awareness of the concept of obesity and ways to treat it among a large number of Syrians, where a questionnaire was filled out by patients who are being treated by one of the methods of weight reduction, and they were 205 patients, 82% female, and 20% of patients with normal weight followed one of the methods of weight reduction, the average body mass ratio was 29.4 kg/m2 before treatment and 25.9 kg/m2 after treatment. In comparison with other drugs used, Orlistat was superior and achieved a weight reduction of 11+-3.5 kg.
The results suggested conducting awareness campaigns to raise awareness of the concept of obesity, its risks and ways to treat it.
