A review article in the International University highlights the environmental effects of heat on some body functions
Environmental pollution caused by chemical and physical factors is of great interest due to its health consequences on both humans and animals. Greenhouse gases also affect the environmental temperature, which has negative effects on organisms now and in the future.
Many reports have revealed clear effects of heat intensity on testicular function, particularly spermatogenesis and steroid biosynthesis in humans and animal models, which is directly related to the placement of the testicle within the scrotum outside the abdomen, which achieves a temperature 2-4 degrees lower than body temperature.
In light of the above, a research team from the International University for Science and Technology and the Faculty of Medicine at the University of Padova in Italy prepared a review article entitled ” Global warming and testis function: A challenging crosstalk in an equally challenging environmental scenario ” and published it in the Frontiers in Cell and Developmental Biology journal of the famous Frontiers publishing house, ranked third in the world in terms of the number of citations, and is classified in the first spring Q1.
The current study included a comprehensive assessment of the environmental effects of heat on testicular function and the possible association between global warming and the decline of testicular function, critically in light of the available epidemiological studies.
Most of these effects are reversible over time and the proposed molecular level intervention is through disruption of cellular redox homeostasis followed by disruption of cellular circuitry and progenitor cell signaling.
Current epidemiological studies have indicated a seasonal tendency in sperm counts and semen parameters with ambient temperature of 13°C being associated with the best spermatogenic performance.
Studies have also revealed that birth rates are also affected by extreme temperatures, which represents a major challenge and a great area for future research and investigation
