From academic success to professional excellence…the success story of our alumnus Dr. Bilal Al-Ashqar Al-Hamawi
One of the first graduates of the Faculty of Pharmacy at the International University iust, he holds an MBA from the Virtual University, a Doctor of Medicine from the German University of Marburg, and a Diploma in Political Science from the University of Constance, he is considered the first researcher from the German University of Marburg to receive the best research award from the German Society of Pulmonology and Respiratory Diseases (DGP).

About one of our students and our pride, Dr. Bilal Al-Ashqar Al-Hamawi.
He studied at the Faculty of Pharmacy and graduated in 2010 with a GPA of 3.1, and was one of the first in his class, and obtained an MBA from the Virtual University, then he received a DAAD scholarship to complete his PhD, which he obtained from the University of Marburg, Faculty of Medicine, Institute of Laboratory Medicine, where he published during his PhD study period more than 10 scientific papers published in peer-reviewed journals with a high impact factor, all classified within Q1
Dr. Al-Hamawi’s successes did not stop there, as his presence in the Leadership for Syria scholarship program with a group of Syrian colleagues enabled him to obtain a diploma in political science on the topic of government reform and conflict resolution from the Faculty of Political Science at the University of Konstanz.
Our graduate went on to win the best research award from the German Society of Pulmonology and Respiratory Diseases (DGP), making him the first researcher from the University of Marburg to receive this honor, after his PhD he continued his studies in the post-doctoral program and was recently promoted to Senior Researcher After working at the Cancer Research Center at the Medical School of the University of Marburg, in addition to several prestigious European and German honors and awards, including awards from DGAKI, Germany and EAACI, Europe, he currently leads a small research group focused on S.Dr. Bilal’s scientific publications include pancreatic, ovarian, lung, and melanoma cancers.
Dr. Bilal has 30 scientific publications (some of which bear the name of the International Private University of Science and Technology) and more than 1700 citations for his research, his h-index is over 19, and all his research is published in peer-reviewed journals.
He received funding for his research through several grants, the latest of which was in 2023 in partnership with the head of the department (DFG) worth 250 thousand euros, and he is a member of several German scientific societies such as: (GSEV) (SyGAAD) (DGAKI) (DZL) and also has several participations in international conferences through scientific and educational lectures within his specialty.
On the role of IUST, Dr. Bilal says: “My studies here were the first building block, from which I set out to achieve my scientific and professional ambitions. I thank my professors who instilled in me the love of innovation.”
