Titanium dioxide nanomaterials (TiO2) are the focus of attention of researchers nowadays, due to their bactericidal, non-toxic, safe, cost-effective, stable, non-carcinogenic and industrial properties.

In this context, a research team from the International Private University for Science and Technology and Damascus University completed a scientific study entitled “Fabrication of branched PVDF/TiO2 nanofibers ideal for keeping food fresh through electrospinning in one step“

This study aims to produce electrospun nanofiber screens with branched structure and ultra-fine diameters from polyvinylidene difluoride (PVDF) polymer with titanium dioxide (TiO2) nanoparticles and evaluate their performance in keeping food fresh.

In this scientific study, the fiber surface structure, infrared spectroscopy, antibacterial properties and air permeability of the resulting nanofiber network were tested.

The results of the study showed that branched PVDF/TiO2 fibers with a diameter of less than 4 nm can be spun smoothly, moreover, these screens showed great potential in keeping the banana fruit core fresh due to their antibacterial and non-toxic properties.

The study was published in World Scientific’s journal Nano and indexed in the Scopus database in the third spring.
