A scientific study in the Faculty of Dentistry on “The Transformative Power of CAD/CAM Dental Technology.”
The world of dentistry is witnessing rapid development, as the use of digital technologies in this field has advanced all its areas due to its advantages such as speed in achieving results from both therapeutic and cosmetic perspectives, good outcomes, medical procedures performed in multiple and safer ways regarding potential complications, in addition to saving effort and time for both the doctor and the patient. However, it is not without some drawbacks, most notably the high cost.
In this context, a researcher from the Faculty of Dentistry at the International Private University of Science and Technology, in collaboration with Damascus University, has completed a scientific study titled “Creating Smiles: A Case Study on the Transformational Power of Dental CAD/CAM Technology.”
This scientific study aims to examine the effectiveness of digital technology in replacing teeth in the aesthetic anterior region, investigate the effectiveness of intraoral/extraoral scanners in various clinical applications, compare the accuracy of impressions between traditional and digital techniques, and study the contribution of digital technologies to improving the aesthetic outcomes of prostheses.
During the stages of the scientific study, intraoral scanning was applied using the Medit i700 device to obtain a three-dimensional model of the jaws, and a three-dimensional digital visualization of the virtual smile was constructed after establishing the bite model and milling the ceramic restorations corresponding to this visualization based on Computer-Aided Manufacturing (CAM) devices.
The scientific study reached several results, including obtaining a three-dimensional digital model of the jaws and the future restorations that correspond to the best smile for the patient’s face and dental alignment.
