The International Day of the Child, observed on November 20th each year, serves as an occasion to advocate for and promote children’s rights through various actions and measures undertaken by the government sector, civil society activists, organizations, and unions, aiming to ensure a better future for children.
In this context, the International Private University of Science and Technology, as an educational institution, provides numerous services for children, driven by its belief in the importance of raising their awareness and caring for their health. At the Faculty of Dentistry, its specialized clinic receives children aged 6 to 10 years, offering them free healthcare and treatment services. Last year, the clinic received approximately 1,000 cases, ranging from treating cavities, extractions, and installing space maintainers to placing metal crowns, clinical diagnosis, applying fluoride to children’s teeth to prevent decay, and other conditions.
Furthermore, the faculty organizes workshops and scientific days that highlight the latest developments in pediatric dentistry. Recently, it held a scientific day in this field titled “Mastering Computerized Intraosseous Anesthesia for Pain-Free Dental Care in Children.”
As for the Faculty of Pharmacy, it has not been detached from this subject. It has focused on children’s health through several graduation projects by its students, addressing medical conditions affecting children, such as “Autism Spectrum Disorder in a Sample of Syrian Patients.” Additionally, studies have covered some gastrointestinal disorders in children (celiac disease, lactose intolerance, malabsorption), along with a research study on drug therapy problems in pediatrics. This study encouraged increased awareness among doctors and pharmacists regarding monitoring, documenting, and reporting adverse drug reactions, in addition to emphasizing the importance of epidemiological and surveillance studies on the effects of medications in children.
It is worth noting that the International Day of the Child was first proclaimed by the United Nations in 1954 and is celebrated on November 20th each year. This day is dedicated to emphasizing the promotion of international cooperation and raising awareness among children worldwide to improve their welfare.
