  • Joint Research by Faculty Members and Pharmacy Alumni Published in a Q2 International Journal

In a new scientific achievement that adds to the University’s research portfolio, a collaborative research study conducted by faculty members and alumni of the Faculty of Pharmacy at the International University for Science and Technology (IUST) has been published in Health Science Reports, a Q2-ranked international journal published by Wiley and dedicated to public health research.

The study, entitled “Knowledge, Attitude, and Use of E-Cigarettes Among Syrian University Students: A Cross-Sectional Study,” aimed to assess Syrian university students’ knowledge, attitudes, and patterns of e-cigarette use, as well as to identify the demographic factors associated with their use. The researchers conducted a cross-sectional study involving 1,572 students from various Syrian universities using an online questionnaire that collected demographic data and evaluated participants’ knowledge, attitudes, and e-cigarette use.

The findings revealed a limited level of knowledge about e-cigarettes among participants, alongside a notable prevalence of e-cigarette use.

The study also identified male gender, parental smoking, and less negative attitudes toward e-cigarettes as independent factors associated with e-cigarette use. Although academic specialty and knowledge level were associated with e-cigarette use in the initial analysis, they did not remain independent predictors after multivariable statistical analysis.

The researchers emphasized the importance of implementing effective awareness campaigns to curb the increasing popularity of e-cigarette use among young people in Syria. This publication highlights the value of collaborative research between faculty members and university alumni and reflects the International University for Science and Technology’s commitment to fostering a strong research culture and promoting meaningful academic partnerships between experienced academics and emerging researchers.
