  • Faculty of Dentistry Accomplishes the First Immediate Extraction and Implant Placement Using a Full Digital Workflow Within the Digital Research Unit

In a significant academic and technological achievement, the Faculty of Dentistry has successfully performed its first immediate extraction and implant placement case using a Full Digital Workflow in Implantology.
This accomplishment was carried out within the activities of the Digital Research Unit and as part of the Oral Rehabilitation course, reflecting the faculty’s commitment to advancing digital transformation in dental education and clinical training.
The procedure involved a fully integrated digital workflow, beginning with diagnosis and three-dimensional virtual planning, followed by intraoral digital scanning and cone beam computed tomography (CBCT), and concluding with the design of a digital surgical guide and immediate implant placement according to the latest internationally recognized digital implantology protocols.
Dr. Ghassan Basit, Director of the Digital Research Unit, stated that this project is part of an academic plan aimed at integrating undergraduate students into modern clinical applications of digital dentistry. The initiative provides students with early hands-on experience in digital implantology, virtual surgical planning, and CAD/CAM technologies, while strengthening the connection between academic education and advanced clinical practice.
Dr. Basit further noted that this work represents the first step in a series of future projects intended to enhance digital clinical education, improve students’ practical training, and expand the use of advanced technologies in diagnosis, treatment, and oral rehabilitation.
This achievement highlights the growing role of the Digital Research Unit in supporting innovation and scientific development within the faculty, while providing an advanced educational environment that keeps pace with the rapid global advancements in digital dentistry and implantology.
Through such initiatives, the Faculty of Dentistry seeks to reinforce the concept of Digital Dentistry and prepare a new generation of dentists capable of efficiently utilizing the latest digital technologies in accordance with modern international academic standards.
