  • The International University for Science and Technology Participates in the 20th Sustainable Development of Energy, Water, and Environmental Systems Conference (SDEWES 2025)

The International University for Science and Technology, represented by Dr. Adnan Al-Ashqar, participated in the 20th Sustainable Development of Energy, Water, and Environmental Systems Conference (SDEWES 2025), which was held in Dubrovnik, Croatia, from October 5 to 10, 2025.

The SDEWES conference is one of the most prominent international conferences in the fields of sustainability and clean energy. It is a prestigious scientific platform that brings together approximately 800 researchers and experts from 68 countries around the world. It aims to develop and disseminate knowledge on the methods, policies, and technologies necessary to promote sustainable development by decoupling growth from the use of natural resources and transitioning to a knowledge-based economy. The conference also collaborates with several Q1-ranked scientific journals, strengthening its position as a leading global scientific platform.

In this context, Dr. Adnan Al-Ashqar presented a research paper entitled “Exploring Marine Propulsion Systems: Current Trends, Challenges, and Future Prospects.” The paper addressed the potential of adopting air propulsion as a sustainable alternative to traditional diesel and electric propulsion systems. It also highlighted innovative solutions that could contribute to a more sustainable and efficient maritime future. Dr. Al-Ashqar highlighted the technical and economic challenges facing these systems, proposing solutions that would drive development in this field.
In a statement about his participation in the conference, Dr. Adnan Al-Ashqar said:
“The SDEWES conference represents an important platform for exchanging ideas and modern practices in the fields of sustainability and clean energy. Through my research paper, I express my interest in finding innovative solutions for the maritime transport sector, which is a major source of carbon emissions. By developing new technologies such as air propulsion, we can achieve a balance between economic efficiency and environmental conservation, helping to build a more sustainable maritime future.”

The International University for Science and Technology’s participation in the SDEWES 2025 conference represents a major step towards strengthening international academic cooperation and underscores the university’s commitment to supporting innovation in various scientific disciplines. It also reflects the importance of these events in stimulating scientific research and the exchange of expertise that leads to achieving sustainable development and environmental conservation for a better future.
